The Ahero Community Center

EMPIS Centre is a project implemented in the village Ahero, located in Kano Plains, Lake Victoria Region in Western Kenya, about 30 Km from Kisumu city. It specifically aims at supporting the orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in Nyando and Kisumu districts, through increasing household incomes of the local people, many of them being caregivers to the high number of HIV/AIDS orphans in this area.

Ongoing Activities

  • We have formed a community Bank which has current membership if 150. They are saving money, buying shares and issuing out loans to member to start or boost their small enterprises.
  • We have constructed poultry farm which can accommodate 600 chicken and currently there is already 100 chicken. The aim of this project is to generate income to support the feeding and education of the total orphan.
  • We leased 5 acre farm to do farming and we planted maize and miller. We will harvest in the month of July and then start farm preparations for horticulture.
  • The construction of the community resource centre has reached roofing stage
