 Overview

Mutambi Women Group was initiated in the early 90’s by women with common interest to encourage widows to engage themselves in income generating activities. Due to increased poverty in the area as a result of HIV/AIDS the women saw a need to empower the widowed women to come up and join groups that would keep them occupied and not look for men to provide money. The group has a total number of 40 women and three men.

The group involves it self with organic farming where they have leased land. They grow vegetables groundnuts maize and sweet potatoes which they later sell and from the money they get their, they use it to loan their members who have small scale businesses. Some of the food harvested in the farm is used for the feeding program which takes place every Saturday. Some of the orphans live in the group’s home and the others are enrolled in the group’s nursery or the local primary school. All the children meet every Saturday where they play games and guided.
