Our 2019 Medium And Long-Term Projects Are Ready

As end of the year 2018 fast approaches, we would like to thank our partners, local communities, hosts and most of all the people who took their much valuable time to travel to Kenya as volunteers. You all played a big role in changing someone’s life and touching their hearts.

We have had many achievements throughout the year and the projects only keep thriving and circumstances improve for people as a result of your genuine participation and as such, we have gone ahead to plan project activities for the year 2019.

why you should volunteer abroad

You can click on the long term or short term pages on our website to select a project of your preference according to the time and resource that is within your means.

We at CIVS Kenya have arranged all these activities keeping in mind the current situations of the local people who may be in need of your contribution. We do this to ensure that you see the fruits of your input during and after your stay there.

We have also taken the time to incorporate some new project areas and highly encourage even those who have volunteered with us before to take some time to look through them in order to see what they can do differently or where they can go volunteer next time with CIVS, in case they would like to return.

Kindly share information on these projects widely to ensure that all interested people get the chance to engage in these selfless kinds of activities when 2019 comes.

Join us in September!

September 2018 is approaching and you still do not know what to do? Do not hesitate anymore and join the CIVS!

Why join the volunatry Service with  CIVS ? This will allow you to discover all the diversity that Kenya has to offer while participating in an international solidarity project. In addition to a cultural exchange, the CIVS offers you a real impact on local issues. This involves projects around the fight against poverty and social exclusion but also around environmental issues.

There are many projects waiting for you at the CIVS as long as you have a lot of motivation to participate in a project and some skills to share.

All our projects are driven by people and we swear by the proximity to local residents. That's why we promote community development. It is a center that aims to become independent helping local populations on various topics such as children's orphanage, wash, feeding program, model farm and others.

You can also participate in projects at workcamps or medium-term projects if you do not have a year to devote to international volunteering.

If you are of German nationality you can participate in the Weltwearts program for one year.

However safe it is, as our volunteers testify, you will have an unforgettable experience alongside the CIVS projects! So join us in September!

ICT Launch

We are pleased to announce that launched the ICT Centre at Ahero Resource Centre with the support of BMZ through our partner TERRA TECH Förderprojekte e. V.

The information and communication technology (ICT) revolution leaves no room for exceptions: It knocks the doors of every country and all activities where human beings are engaged in. The way we work, learn and live is highly influenced by the rapid development of this technology.  The project therefore aims for the rural youth to have an increased ICT access, knowledge and employability. This is helpful in the empowerment of the young people and those that are vulnerable in the community.

Prior to the launch, we held a consultative meeting with the youth in the region. This was followed by a ground breaking ceremony during the launch. We thank Frank Beutel of Terra Tech, Mrs. Rose Nyamunga the Nominated Senator Mr. Moris Ngeta the MCA for Awasi-Onjiko and Ursula Neideck of LandsAid for gracing the occasion. We also extend our gratitude to all the youth, the members of Ahero community and all our volunteers who participated in this event.

Happy Holidays!

During this Christmas holiday season, we are very gratefully to all our partners and volunteers who made our success possible. We thank our partners for their continued support throughout this year. We also appreciate the trust they have always placed in us. We are grateful to our volunteers whose impact on volunteerism has benefited and transformed communities and vulnerable members of the society.

It is in this spirit that we say thank you and best wishes for the Christmas holidays and New Year. We wish you peace, joy and prosperity throughout the coming year. We look forward to working with you in the years to come.

International Volunteer Day (IVD)

International Volunteer Day (IVD) on5 December was designated by the United Nations in 1985 as an international observance day to celebrate the power and potential of volunteerism. As we celebrate this year International Volunteer Day (IVD), we applaud our volunteers who have contributed immensely in many developmental areas where they have uplifted community development projects across the country. We are grateful to our volunteers whose impact on volunteerism has benefited and transformed communities and vulnerable members of the society through promotion of sustainable development to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

On this day as we continue with our spirit of volunteerism, let’s strive towards renewing our determination through giving back to the society and addressing socio-economic disparities. In the words of Marjorie Moore, "Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections every year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in".

Volunteering with CIVS Kenya makes a difference for the most vulnerable and promotes intercultural exchange and understanding. Find here more details about our programs.

Our Proposed Workcamp Project

Title of the project
Re-introduction of Indigenous vegetables foods

Description of the project
CIVS Kenya will host a Workcamp at Ahero Resource Centre situated in Western Kenya with the overall goal to improve household nutrition and income on the basis of traditional, indigenous vegetables and crops which are adapted to the local conditions. The reason for this being that the food base for the rural population has become narrower, leaving communities more vulnerable to food shortages and nutrient-deficiency diseases. Additionally there has been a significant rise of lifestyle diseases across the country due to the adaptation of what is considered a more modern or westernized lifestyle. Many people have neglected the rich and diverse agricultural heritage of Kenya and forgotten about the benefits traditional foods.

Kenya has a natural abundance of indigenous edible vegetables, fruits and other underutilized and neglected species which are inexpensive to produce and well adapted to the environments in which they grow.

It is on this basis that we are now accepting applications from international and national volunteers for a workcamp to be hosted by Ahero Resource Center in Western Kenya.
